Twitter Death

Was checking my Google reader this morning and stumbled upon a lovely article over on Mashable! about the death of twitter and Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins expressing his anger at the service.
All the major metrics point to an evacuation: Alexa, Google Trends, and Quantcast. Compete’s analysis doesn’t show up to the day stats for people counts, but the following velocity trend graph shows some very negative numbers
Of course they’re leaving the service is unusable, and little appears to be getting better. I doubt IM or track will return any time soon, and who knows when replies will be usable. As Mark went on the say:
“I hate having to rely on the web version of Twitter, first of all, then having the reply tab bork, and THEN having to go to summize, and hit reply there and pray that twitter works. It’s why I only check Twitter once or twice a day now.”
Yep I said the same thing a few days ago in my post on twitter raising funds yet still not working. I’m glad to see sites like Mashable! finally see the fact that twitter isn’t the end all for social networks. If press like this can’t force biz and the team to step it up, what will?
Also as far as my withdrawal from twitter goes I had times where I thought I would have to go back, namely after reading posts by Robert Scoble while he was in DC. Twitter is still has major players behind it and hopefully they will soon realize that twitter isn’t king.
UPDATE: Seems Michael Arrington is fed up as well. Good to see people are actually starting to see twitter as unacceptable. Twitter should probably step forward and address the issues rather than providing small scraps on what is happening. Talking full blown blog post about it biz. Seriously. Do it.
